Oral Cancer Screenings

Oral cancer screenings are a very important part of the dental visit for the patient. We complete a thorough screening at your initial visit to our office and recheck your mouth at every hygiene visit.  If we determine an area looks suspicious, we will refer you to an Oral Surgeon for biopsy and removal of lesions. We also encourage our patients to stay aware of changes in their own mouth.  If you notice anything suspicious at any time, don’t hesitate to call us for an appointment.

Certain lifestyle choices can have a great impact on the health of the tissues in your mouth:

  • Smoking
  • Use of smokeless tobacco
  • Drinking Soda (Mountain Dew especially)
  • Drinking Alcohol

Certain medical conditions can also be a factor:

  • Diabetes
  • Heart Disease
  • History of Cancer
  • History of radiation treatment or chemotherapy
  • Taking prescription medications
